TGS® partial knee replacement is a preferred alternative to total knee surgery for patients who suffer from arthritis that is limited to one compartment of the knee, either the medial or lateral side of the affected knee.

In resurfacing one compartment of the knee, the surgeon will make a small vertical and a transverse resection to remove a thin slice of the top of the inner tibia. This will remove the worn cartilage layer and a small amount of the bone supporting it. With the TGS® partial knee system, the surgeon then uses this newly created ‘shelf’ of bone to support the patented TGS® instruments designed to hold the femur and tibia apart under a controlled force and position a cutting element to prepare the femoral condyle. This instrument is set to remove the least amount of bone possible from the femoral condyle as the surgeon extends the knee to prepare a support surface for the femoral implant. This controlled movement is guided by the patient’s own ligaments and results in a final implant-to-implant placement that is patient-specific.

This soft tissue guidance, referred to as “Tissue Guided Surgery” or TGS®, is the heart of our partial knee resurfacing technology. The operative result will provide a natural-feeling partial knee replacement for the patient and leave them with a high level of confidence in how the knee feels after surgery.
