About TGS® Knee Innovations
TGS® Knee Innovations was merged into Alexandria Research Technologies (ART) in 2011. ART was founded in 2001 by Dr. Jerry Engh, a world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon, and Wes Johnson, an executive with over 30 years experience in the orthopaedic industry with responsibilities in corporate management and product development. The two founders share a passion for reconstructive orthopaedics, particularly of the knee. This led them to create ART as a vehicle to pursue a variety of development ideas and bring them to commercialization.
The company has evolved into a medical device manufacturing company with a very deep patent portfolio and the ability to quickly work through the product development process to bring new ideas to life. Notable in this has been development of using the patient’s soft tissue structures to guide the resurfacing of diseased joints. The company has effectively applied this technology to partial knee replacement and is now marketing the TGS® UKA System. ART received 510(k) (K090024 & K101206) clearance to market the TGS® UKA System in May 2009 from the FDA.
